I tin can't get Canon Digital Photo Professional person to install
Jan ten, 2021
I only got an EOS R5 and I desire to experiment with the dual pixel capability.
I download the installer for DPP from Canon, version 4.xiii.x, and run information technology.
I see a dialog that says extracting files.
That dialog disappears and then nothing. The installer app isn't running.
I've got a 2020 iMac running Bone 10.fifteen.seven
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Probably a silly question, but you are downloading the Mac version and non the windows version, right? Honestly I don't retrieve it gives yous the pick when it detects your OS, only thought I'd ask.

Have you followed the instructions?
https://hk.catechism/en/support/0200627009/1?model=3829C
I'k non sure if this is the same Catechism site you used, but it sounds like the downloadable file is a .zip file. Cipher would happen when you double-clicked on that, except that the figurer would unpack it. It wouldn't be running an installer automatically.
Within the .cypher file is a .dmg file – a disk prototype. Double-clicking on that one won't start the installer, either. It will mount the disk image on the Desktop - you lot'll see what appears to be some other bulldoze.
On that drive is the installer, and when yous double-click it, it will showtime.

Sadly the problem occurs when I click on the installer in the .dmg window, dppm4.xiii.10-installer.
It displays an "extracting files" progress window, that window disappears and in that location is no running process left to actually do anything.
Equally I empathise it what I should come across is a dialog asking for my language and location.
I found an old mail that got this to work by creating a new admin account on the estimator and installing the software through that but I was hoping there was a amend way.
Thank you for your suggestion however.

As I understand it what I should see is a dialog asking for my language and location.
I institute an old post that got this to work past creating a new admin account on the computer and installing the software through that but I was hoping there was a better way.
Thank you for your suggestion however.
In the Finder,
- Hold down the Selection key
- Click on the Go menu
- Click on Library (which will only exist in the menu if you held Option)
- Double-click the Preferences folder within the Library binder
So look for two files named
- com.canon.Digital Photograph Professional.plist
- com.canon.Digital Photograph Professional person Batch.plist
If yous find them, delete them, or rename them (to something like (whatever).old_plist). Do the same with whatsoever other com.catechism.Digital Photo Professional person type preference files that you might find living there, in your user-level Preferences folder.
Then try running the installer once again.
I don't think you need to create a new admin business relationship – just to get rid of any old, crufted preference files that might exist in a particular user acount. Creating an admin account does that (since the new account won't starting time with any), simply cleaning up an existing account should work just every bit well.

I just went through this myself. In settings>users make sure you have checked the box for your user profile to be an ambassador.
Equally soon as I changed it to that from a divide admin profile it worked instantly. I searched for days on this topic and nobody explained it very conspicuously. Not sure I did either but it was that simple.

Thank you only in that location are no canon plist files in my preferences folder, which was invisible by the way.
Re: I can't become Catechism Digital Photo Professional to install
Yep, running the installer in an admin account seems necessary. I ran into the aforementioned installation problems on macOS Big Sur (xi.4) as the original poster. When running in a standard user account, the Canon installer does not ask for admin credentials, but silently fails.
Switching to an admin account for installation allowed me to get past this and install the software successfully.
For running the software, a standard user account is sufficient.

Every bit soon as I changed it to that from a separate admin contour it worked instantly. I searched for days on this topic and nobody explained it very clearly. Non sure I did either simply it was that simple.

Re: I can't go Catechism Digital Photo Professional to install
I tin't get DPPro to install no affair what. Ever fails at the same spot: Extracting Files. The installer image mounts on my desktop and the Bone asks me to give it permission to run, then information technology dies halfway through, every fourth dimension.
I have an older version already installed, but it won't save JPEG's at present that. I have OS Large Sur. I tried deleting the prefs in the system's Library/Prefs and in the user-level prefs folders. There was 1 plist in my user binder.
Catechism's website auto-detected that I accept Bone Catalina, and it displayed dppm4.15.0-installer. Did not piece of work. I rebooted, selected that I have Bone Big Sur, and information technology dsplayed dppm4.14.0-installer. Still didn't work. I filed a report with Canon that information technology incorrectly identifies the OS and recommends an older version for the newer OS, which must be a website bug.

FINALLY!! Got information technology to install
I had to create a new user account, with Ambassador privileges. That did the pull a fast one on! I tried everything else I could retrieve of, without any luck. Information technology makes no sense at all why I had to resort to this.
Honestly, I'one thousand ill and tired of Apple adding stupid features, like Maps and Siri and translucent windows. I wish they'd just spend ii years fixing bugs and working with developers to make the platform more than stable. I asked Siri why the software wouldn't install. She didn't have a clue.

I wouldn't assume that the trouble is caused by an OS bug. . . Unless y'all have plant info that proves otherwise, of course. Information technology's more likely a problem with the installer.
Re: FINALLY!! Got it to install
Perhaps...
Yous might contact Canon and advise them of the upshot.
The effect may exist with Catechism
The issue may exist with Apple tree
Canon are in a position to resolve this and liaise with Apple as needed
Your feedback may prompt a set up which may help other users
Hope this helps

I'll endeavour, but Canon's website is pretty ghetto correct now.
Example One: It auto-detects the wrong OS
Case Two: It recommends older software for newer Bone versions.
Example 3: When I reported this, they did not send whatever response
Example Four, When I tried to login to support to file the report you suggested (good idea!) their website but displays an error page, "Referer [SIC] header is required." They tin't even spell right.
I'll effort to call them tomorrow, just this is getting pretty pathetic.

Re: FINALLY!! Got it to install
Based on your reply above - the problem may well be with the fashion Canon accept designed (?) the installer rather than an overall Apple issue.

Some other thought that comes to mind is that it is an older installer that may have problems with the ramped up security in Catalina and Large Sur, along with the hardening of Mac hardware due east.g. T2 chips.
Information technology certainly appears that Canon is experiencing customer service issues in multiple areas.
